Divertimento is a group of thirty or so singers. The number varies from time to time but the one thing that never changes is our passion for singing and all things vocal.
The appointment of Laura Bailie, our first professional Musical Director, saw the beginning of a new chapter in Divertimento's future. Choir and audience alike are enjoying a renewed passion and an exciting approach under her enthusiastic direction.
Our programmes are mainly made up of unaccompanied pieces in almost any style you can think of. We love sacred and secular music, from the Renaissance right through to the present day, and from all around the world. We sing in English and various European languages, as well as fa la la and doo be doo (and the very occasional hey nonny no). We've even had the odd go at a couple of African languages. And Welsh.
We do also include longer works from time to time, accompanied by piano, organ and occasionally by a small orchestra. And we have many very talented musicians within the group who have treated us and our audiences to some very special performances on flute, clarinet, recorder, saxophone, piano, organ, harpsichord, violin, viola, kazoo ...
We're sure you've got the idea. We simply love music and we always hope that this comes across in our performances. Come along to one and let us know what you think - you can add your comments to our You said page.
